A Dramatic Change Ahead in Federal Prison Policy?

by | Aug 14, 2013 | Uncategorized |

Earlier today Attorney General Eric Holder spoke to the American Bar Association and announced many changes in federal criminal justice policy including a top to bottom look at who goes to federal prison, how long they will remain in federal prison and who will be released from federal prison.  Taking a look at what Attorney General Eric Holder said makes clear that some changes are immediate and others are change not likely to be felt for months ahead.

As Federal Prison Consultants announced in an earlier blog, we had been again successful in gaining a federal prison compassionate release for a federal prison inmate that had been previously denied. We were hopeful that was a sign that the Federal Bureau of Prisons was relaxing its policies.   Today Attorney General Eric Holder made it official when he stated:  “the Department has updated its framework for considering compassionate release for inmates facing extraordinary or compelling circumstances – and who pose no threat to the public…..Today I can announce additional expansions to our [Bureau of Prisons] policy – including revised criteria for elderly inmates who did not commit violent crimes and who have served significant portions of their sentences.”

The Attorney General’s statement is a dramatic change in Federal Prison Policy and brings hope to federal prison inmates.  Contact us at to discuss how this change in the federal prison compassionate release policy will impact your incarcerated loved one.
